Unwrapping Me

Here is the full description of the upcoming novel....

Just for you!!

What do you do when in an instant your perfect world is shattered?

Tyler Richards meet the man of her dreams, Charles Travers, in high school. Defying their parents, they ran away to marry and start the perfect life they had been planning for years.

When a freak accident takes Tyler's dreams and crumbles them she spends more days pondering suicide than rebuilding her life.

Charles sticks around mostly due to his own guilt. Twelve years they spend growing apart until finally Tyler sets him free.

Her best friend Eve will not let her fall into the pits of despair. Forces her to come back and join the human race. Working her body, her mind and her soul. Standing by her through every moment, never letting her lose site of what can be.

The fear of another man seeing her, fearing her, keeps Tyler from wanting to find another man to love.

Attending a boring party, Tyler meets a woman that leads her into a world she never knew existed. But, can she handle the things she sees? Only having one man her entire life and now meeting all of these men that want to be near her, with her. Which man is true? Which man can handle what lies beneath her clothing?

The one that can is the one she least expected..... The one that will bring her back from the hell she has lived for far too long and into the light, showing her that beauty comes from the inside. She is desirable. She is magnificent and she is to become his.

Blurb for Tainted Rose
Maybelline Beasley enjoys her life in the Silver Leaf 55+ community until her neighbor is murdered. With all eyes point at her as the prime suspect, she struggles with her fear of cops and her attraction to Detective Billy Bob Cooter. Can he save her from the real murderer who’s looking for an escape goat? Or will her second change at love come to an end by a killer’s gun?

Excerpt:
“You have reached the 911 operator for Sitwell. What’s your emergency?” The calm voice appeared pleasant enough, but Maybelline wasn’t sure how long it would stay that way.
“I believe my neighbor is in trouble. She likes to hang out on top of her roof and meditate.” An unmovable lump formed in her throat. Swallowing her emotions, she started again. “But, she’s, uh, not moving and lying slightly off kilter as if something is wrong.”
“Could she have fallen asleep?” The operator suggested.
“No, I tried...” She stopped mid-sentence as she realized the woman might have a point. After all, Rose could be a little deaf. To test the theory, Maybelline searched for a way to make noise. “Wait, a second.”
She leaned into the car, set her hand in the middle of the steering wheel, and laid on her horn. The blast echoed around her, and she turned to glance up at her neighbor.
Rose didn’t move.
The certainty of an adverse outcome resonated through Maybelline’s body. The heaviness of grief robbed her of strength. She sagged against the car’s doorframe for support and lifted her cellphone back to her ear.
“Madam, madam, you don’t need to blow the horn. That might frighten her, and she could fall off the roof.” The operator sounded irritated by the interruption.
“But how else could I tell if she was asleep?” Maybelline didn’t understand the woman’s problem.
“Why don’t I just send someone out to check on your friend?”
“That would be helpful, thanks.” Maybelline lowered the phone knowing the 911 operator would want to keep her on the line, but she had no intentions of doing any such thing. She had gone through the whole rigmarole the last time and had no plans to do it again.
“Miss, I need...”
Maybelline hit the disconnect button and stuffed her cell in the pocket of her jeans.

Teaser for Unwrapping Me

I'm feeling vulnerable so I'm going to give you a teaser for the new book. Come back on the 12th for the cover reveal and then for the first chapter.

Losing the Spark

It's sad that over the years the passion fades, that lust which drives you insane wanting to just feel their touch becomes one sided.

Why does it slowly disappear?

We dive into this enticing affair with the idea that the desire for one another will last forever.

Many years later you lay next to that person wondering, how? How did we lose that fire? What made it burn out?

Now you feel more like their roommate than their lover. The times when they would walk through the door and take you right there because those hours apart made their thirst for your touch, taste, smile actually had then thinking they were going insane without you.

You lay there at night hoping that they are dreaming of you and wake with that intense flame re-lit and attack from the obscene dream that had invaded their sleep.

Now you wonder, is starting over a better option? Search for that desire in someone new. Is it worth losing all of those sweet moments that still exist. Those tiny morsels that make you believe all of what once was still hides beneath the surface. The absolute closeness that you will lose if you look for that spark in another. How do you bring it back? Can you bring it back?

This is what drives me to write. These thoughts, desires, needs that lie deep within me. That way to give that hope to another that may be feeling the way I myself do from time to time. Bring that spark back into the readers eye so they can once again ignite the Flame from within.

Ruth has a new release!! Grab a copy!! Here is an excerpt from Happily Ever After..

“I don’t know why I let the town council talk me into co-chairing the July Fourth celebration.” Her biting tone wasn’t meant to deceive him. She was very aware why she agreed. The offer at Christmas played to her wounded ego.
“They convinced you Beth Alexander would draw more people than last year’s co-chair. Even Jean agreed.”
“Yeah, easy for Jean to say. She’s my agent with no idea what it takes to run an event like this. More to the point, she’s not in Havenport herding cats. So why am I doing this?”
“Because you love it. You whip up people with your passion. That’s how you convinced me to do the book signing with you at the fair tomorrow.”
If I remember correctly, I ‘whipped you up with my passion’ quite nicely before you left. You didn’t complain.” Images of their last night together flashed in her mind. They’d spent the day at the beach.
He wore his diving brief, which left nothing to the imagination. His broad shoulders, well-defined abs, and trim waist were romance-cover worthy. Dark wavy hair set off hazel eyes, which held a look of warmth and desire. Their lovemaking was more than heart-stopping strokes and touches. Much more. She leaned her forehead against the cool glass of the porch window to counter the heat threatening to burn her to a crisp.
“You still there, or did I hit a dead zone?”
“I’m here. Lost in the vision of ‘whipping you up.’” She stepped to the side table, breaking the conjured spell, and took a long drink of lemonade. The tartness quenched her thirst, but didn’t satisfy her other craving. That had to wait until Jarred got home.
“Yeah, me, too.” His voice rumbled with a soft, teasing laugh that he usually combined with a smart-ass Bruce Willis smirk.
She needed to get her mind on something else. She was so past mooning over him like a love-struck teenager. Her inner teen giggled. No, she was definitely a love-struck thirtysomething.

Blurb:

Love is a long journey.

Lisa Benedict needed a date for a bar mitzvah, but when the escort she hired arrives he’s not just good looking, he’s also kind, gentle, and protective. He makes her feel sexy again and she wants to keep him around. But she doesn’t know that the terrible abuse Gale suffered at the hands of one of the Hollywood elite keeps him from being able to trust her no matter how much he wants to.

Gale loved being with Lisa and her sons, but when she put a contract in front of him, he thought she wanted to enslave him as another woman had threatened to. He fled. Months later, with some therapy behind him, he wants to try again. Will she be willing to take him back after the way he stormed out?

And if she does, can he trust her to not reject him when she learns the truth?

Excerpt:
“Help me, Gale Wallace. You’re my only hope.”
Gale grinned. “I love that movie.” Too bad they couldn’t stay in tonight and watch it. They could cuddle on the couch, eat popcorn, and repeat their favorite lines. He swallowed. He should not be thinking of his client as a person. It would make the whole date more difficult. But it was impossible not to, especially when she was treating him as an equal.
“Me, too. See, we already have something in common.” She set aside her glass.
“We met at the Starbucks near where you work.”
“Yes, and we ended up chatting.” She patted his knee again.
“About Star Wars.”
She laughed and it was full of joy. "Of course we did. After coffee, we decided to have lunch. My ex had the boys last weekend, so we went to Brandywine on Saturday."
“And you asked me to come with you this weekend.”
“Perfect. I did kind of invite you last Saturday.” She stroked his arm and then yanked her hand away. “I’m sorry. I don’t mean to manhandle you.”
“Actually, to sell it, you will want to.” Not entirely true, but Gale was enjoying being touched by her.
“Oh good.” She rested her hand on his forearm again. “I should probably know what you do. I suppose you want to be an actor. You’re good-looking enough.”
“I tell people that I’m a model, but I do want to get into acting. What do you do?”
“I work for ABN in development picking which shows are green lit for production.”
“That sounds important.”
She shrugged. “I guess it would be if I had any power at all.”
If he leaned in right now to kiss her, what would she do? Kiss back? Slap him? Too soon to tell.

Christa Maurice spends a lot of time lost in imagination. When not writing, she loves to travel and has spent several years living overseas. She spent four years living in Abu Dhabi where the temperature was always hot, the sunrise and sunset were pretty stable year ‘round and she could go weeks without speaking to a man who wasn’t selling her groceries. You know that happens to a woman living in what amounts to a harem situation? She spends a lot of time talking about shoes and thinking about men. Which brings us right back to being lost in imagination…

Showing some #AuthorLove for a Hot Paranormal #Romance, Alpha Lover, by Brenda Sparks

Book Blurb:

Starved for blood, vampire, Nicholai Peterhof is greatly relieved when two tourists, in Russia for the Christmas holiday, decide to grace his restaurant, but one sip from the pretty brunette and his world is forever turned upside down. Juliette Staint-John is everything he could have asked for in a heartmate; pretty, smart, built with curves in all the right places…and totally unavailable.

Juliette doesn’t want anything to do with the handsome, young-looking Nicholai. As if their differences aren’t enough, the acute grief over the loss of loved ones keeps her heart guarded. He may be her fantasy, but that’s all he can ever be.

To get past Juliette’s defenses and in order to keep her safe, Nicholai must prove himself worthy of her love and trust. Unbeknownst to the couple, her personal demons are not the only ones threatening their relationship. Hiding virtually unseen by the vampires, Demon Royalty plots to destroy not only the couple but the entire vampire breed. Luckily, Nicholai will do anything for Juliette—even if it means sacrificing himself.

Except

Julie’s gaze swept the landscape. The moon’s rays glittered on the snowy bows. The birch trees stood with their trunks painted white to match their limbs. Thick pine branches held fast under the weight of the new fallen snow, making them appear as if they wore white blankets made of virginal cotton about each limb. Sparkling mounds cluttered the ground between the trees, hiding the forest’s treasures beneath.

Save the sound of the hooves pounding on the ground, they journeyed through the silent night to a clearing in the trees. Nicholai clicked to his stallion, and with a flick of the reins, the steed increased into a rolling canter up a steep incline. Julie’s thighs pushed against the sides of the horse as she tried to match the new rhythm.

Nicholai’s breath warmed her ear when he spoke. “Not too much further. It’s right up ahead.”
“What’s up ahead?” Just as the words left Julie’s mouth, they crested over the ridge.
The frozen valley below took her breath away. A glaciate waterfall stood still as a statue against the rocky terrain. The cascading water, stopped as if by magic, reflected the moon’s soft rays and cast tiny prisms on the snow below.
Julie’s breath hitched in her throat. She took in the serene beauty of the land as they cruised at a slow trot. Debris rolled under Kedar’s hoofs. It created a hollow rattle in the night, barely audible to Juliette.
When they reached the valley, Nicholai pulled up the stallion and handed the reins to Julie. She patted the horse’s steaming neck as her lover dismounted with a fluid grace. He turned, grabbed Kedar’s reins, then reached up for Julie. Her thick coat seemed to melt as his strong hands clasped around her waist. She put her hands on his shoulders, and the bulge of muscle under his coat played under her fingers when he helped her down. A thrill went through her body.
Her breath frosted the air in a white plume. The lovers held each other, his hands about her waist, hers resting on his shoulders. Quiet as the moon above, they stared deeply into each other’s eyes. Nicholai captured her lips in a gentle caress that welcomed her to this special place.

About the Author

Brenda Sparks has always loved all things spooky and enjoys incorporating paranormal elements in her writing. She refuses to allow pesky human constraints to get in the way of telling the story. Luckily the only thing limiting her stories is her imagination. Her characters are strong, courageous, and she adores spending time with them in their imaginary world.

Her idea of a perfect day is one spent in front of a computer with a hot cup of coffee, her fingers flying over the keys to send her characters off on their latest adventure.

The Fire is Gone

Bre Meli

Sparks flew between us when we met.
Hands touching flesh
Lips never getting enough
Entangled in the night as we dream of the days to come.

Time goes by.
We fight.
We make up.
We love.
We lie.

Now as I help you fix your tie.
After spending hours preparing to be beautiful for you.
Soften my skin, hoping for your caress.
Wearing that dress you've always loved, praying to once again see that desire in your eyes.

I spend the evening watching you mingle.
Sitting alone.
Waiting.

The music slows.
Not once do you ask me to dance.
As the cameras flash everywhere.
Not once do you hold me close and ask for one of you and I.

People all around, dancing, laughing, making memories.

The only memories that I will leave with are sad visions of you not being near me.

It seems our time is coming to an end.

That once enormous flame,
Now smolders attempting to break through the ashes to burn bright once again.

The flame I fear is gone.
